BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The No. 19 Moravian College softball team won a pair of low-scoring games Thursday afternoon at Blue & Grey Field as the Greyhounds defeated Ursinus College, 2-1 and 2-0, in a non-conference doubleheader.

"We got a couple of nice pitching performances from Josie (Novak) and Amanda (Carisone) to keep us in the games, and we were able to manufacture enough runs to wins the games," commented Head Coach John Byrne. "We need to do a better job at the plate and clean some things up in the field as we head into more conference action this weekend.

Sophomore pitcher Josie Novak improved to 7-1 in the circle this season in the opener as she allowed a run on six hits and a walk while striking out 11 batters. She struck out the side in the sixth inning of the contest.

Freshman shortstop Kaela Kane was 2-for-2 at the plate and scored the winning run for the Blue and Grey in the home half of the sixth inning.

The Bears tied the game in the top of the fifth inning with a run on another sacrifice fly. The Greyhounds would answer in the bottom of the sixth when Kane led off with a single and scored on an RBI single off the bat of freshman third baseman Madison Shaneberger.

In game two, sophomore Amanda Carisone scattered two hits and two walks while striking out five batters to surpass for 150 for her career.

Moravian was limited to four hits in the game, and the Greyhounds scored both of their runs in the bottom of the second inning. With two outs, sophomore catcher Janae Matos reached on an error and sophomore first baseman Jean Markovic singled. After a wild pitch moved the runners up a base, freshman second baseman Julia DeMarco ripped a two-RBI double down the left field line to score both runners.

The Hounds finished up their six-game home stand with a 5-1 mark to improve to 13-3 on the season. Moravian is slated to return to action in a Landmark Conference doubleheader at The University of Scranton on Saturday, March 26 beginning at 1:00 p.m.
