No. 19 Greyhounds Headed to Ithaca, N.Y. for 2016 NCAA DIII Regionals May 13-15

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. --- The No. 19 ranked Moravian College softball team is heading to the Ithaca College for the 2016 NCAA Division III Softball National Championship Regionals beginning on Friday, May 13 with the Greyhounds opening play against Worcester State University (26-16-1), which won the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship at 1:00 p.m.

The action on Friday continues with host No. 16 Ithaca (27-11), the Empire 8 Conference Champion, playing Mount Saint Mary College (22-10), the Skyline Conference Champion at 3:30 p.m. Follow the tournament at http://athletics.ithaca.edu/sports/2016/5/10/2016-ncaa-softball-championship.aspx.

Games will run through Sunday, May 15 in the double-elimination tournament with the winner of the regional advancing to one of eight Super Regionals on May 20-21. The eight Super Regional winners will advance to the NCAA Division III World Series in Salem, Virginia from May 26-30 a the Moyer Sports Complex.

Moravian Head Coach John Byrne has guided the Greyhounds to a 35-4 mark this season, and the Hounds earned an automatic berth by capturing the 2016 Landmark Conference Championship on Sunday for the program's second straight and seventh overall Landmark title. The Hounds are making their 16th NCAA Division III Tournament appearance and second consecutive trip. Byrne, who is 748-225 in 23 seasons, has led the program to a 39-32 mark in NCAA Tournament action, and the Greyhounds won NCAA Regional titles in 2004, 2007 and 2010 for berths in the NCAA Division III World Series. The squad also had a regional title last spring to reach the Super Regionals for the first time. Moravian played for the national title in 2004, finishing as the runner-up.
