Women’s Basketball 2013-14 Schedule Opens in Lone Star State

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Moravian College women's basketball team will begin its 2013-14 campaign with three straight road contests, including the season-opening Southwest University Tournament in Georgetown, Texas, November 15-16.

The Greyhounds, led by 27th-year Head Coach Mary Beth Spirk, will face Trinity University on Friday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. (EST) before taking on host school Southwestern on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 8 p.m. (EST).

Spirk's squad then returns to the East Coast for a Nov. 20 non-conference matchup at the College of New Jersey beginning at 6 p.m.

Moravian's 2013-14 home opener is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 23 against Albright College at 2 p.m. in Johnston Hall. The team also welcomes all kin past and present for the program's annual Family Day.

The Greyhounds host this season's Matte Award game with rival Muhlenberg College on Tuesday, Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. as part of their non-conference slate. Other non-conference contests include trips to DeSales University on Nov. 26 and Montclair State University on Dec. 17, and home games against Centenary (N.J.) College on Dec. 9 and Ursinus College on Jan. 7.

Johnston Hall will host the 13th Annual Moravian Winter Classic as the Greyhounds take on John Jay (N.Y.) College on Friday, Jan. 3 and either Immaculata University or Wilkes University on Saturday, Jan. 4.

Moravian opens Landmark Conference play on the road on Saturday, Dec. 7 at Juniata College. Johnston Hall will see its first Landmark game on Sunday, Dec. 15 when the United States Merchant Marine Academy comes to Bethlehem for a 4 p.m. game. The following conference contest with Goucher College on Saturday, Jan. 11 coincides with the Greyhounds' book drive and Take a Kid to the Game Day.

Saturday, Feb. 8 marks Moravian's annual Alumni Game at 12 p.m., which is directly followed by a 2 p.m. contest with Landmark foe Juniata in the Play 4Kay Game, which helps raise funds for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund in partnership with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association and The V Foundation for Cancer Research. The women's basketball team raised more than $16,000 for Play 4Kay last year, which led NCAA Division III for the fifth straight year.

The Greyhounds' regular season wraps up on Senior Day at Johnston Hall in a conference battle with The Catholic University of America at 4 p.m.

Moravian will be seeking its 13th straight postseason berth when the Landmark Conference Tournament kicks off on Wednesday, Feb. 26. The Greyhounds finished 22-7 last winter, including an 11-3 record in conference play.
