Greyhounds Hosting 3rd Annual Pink Zone Clinic in Johnston Hall on February 6

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's basketball team will host its Third Annual Pink Zone Clinic in Johnston Hall on Thursday, February 6 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. as part of the program's Play 4Kay week.

The 2014 Play 4Kay initiative is an opportunity for a nation of coaches to raise breast cancer awareness and funds for research on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond. Since its inception in 2007, the Play 4Kay initiative has raised over $2.5 million to support women's cancer research. The Kay Yow Cancer Fund is the official charity of the initiative.

Head Coach Mary Beth Spirk, her assistant coaches Amy Endler and Sara Steinman and members of the Greyhounds' squad will go over proper techniques for shooting, passing, defense, dribbling and shooting during the 90 minute clinic.

"We are thrilled to partner with the Play 4Kay initiative and offer this clinic to help in raising awareness and money for cancer research," stated Spirk. "It is always good to work with the youth and teach them not only basketball skills but also about the reality of cancer and help to find a cure."

The Greyhounds are asking for a $10 donation from local youth basketball players in grades 2 through 8, and all of the money will be donated to Moravian's Play 4Kay week and onto the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.

Over the last five years, the Moravian has won the Play 4Kay contest at the NCAA Division III level each season. The contest is an effort to reward participating teams in the Play 4Kay who are also raising funds for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund®, in partnership with The V Foundation. The Greyhounds raised $16,210 a year ago, and the program was also the top NCAA Division III team in 2012 with $12,025, in 2011 with $5,825 and in 2010 at $6,100. Moravian raised $5,200 in 2009 to give the program a total of $45,360.

Moravian's Play 4Kay week begins on Sunday, February 2 with the Third Annual Pink Zone Clinic in Springfield, New Jersey, and the week will conclude on Saturday, February 8 when the Greyhounds host their annual Alumni game at noon before hosting Juniata College in a Landmark Conference contest at 2:00 p.m. in Johnston Hall.
