SELINSGROVE, Pa. --- Senior guard Danielle Brogan netted a game-high 18 points and led five Greyhounds in double figures as the Moravian College women's basketball team posted a 76-65 Landmark Conference win at Susquehanna University Saturday in the Greyhounds' final road game of the 2013-14 regular season.
Brogan netted 14 of her 18 points in the first half, and she grabbed five rebounds as the Hounds had a 36-31 edge on the boards. Senior forward Ericka Blair had 16 points, eight rebounds and a career-best five assists while senior guard Alyssa Hann contributed 12 points, a career high six steals and four assists.
Seniors guard Katie O'Rourke and forward Laura Jordan each tossed in 10 points with O'Rourke adding seven boards and three assists while Jordan had a team-high nine rebounds and all six of the Greyhounds blocked shots in the contest. Sophomore forward Alesha Marcks had seven points and five assists in the victory.
"Our balanced scoring is what we are looking for and it makes us tough to play against," stated Head Coach Mary Beth Spirk. "We're in the thick of things with The Catholic University of America and The University of Scranton (who the Greyhounds finish the regular season at home with next week) for the top seed in the playoffs. We needed to take care of business with a win today and did that, which sets up a wild final week to the regular season."
Nikki Komara led Susquehanna with 15 points and 10 assists while Mariah Monahan added 14 points.
The difference in the game came at the foul line as the Greyhounds connected on 24-of-27 free throws while the Crusaders were just 5-for-7 at the line.
Brogan started the game with a pair of lay-ups and a three-pointer in the first 1:42 of the game, and she followed it with another three-pointer and a jumper as the Greyhounds built a 14-5 lead. The Crusaders fought back with an 11-2 run to take a 17-16 lead with 6:52 before the intermission.
Moravian answered back with a 10-0 run as a lay-up and two free throws from Blair gave the Greyhounds a 26-17 lead just 3:52 before halftime. Jordan added a pair of lay-ups, and Hann made her second jumper of the half as the Hounds headed to the locker room with a 32-23 lead.
After the Greyhounds scored the opening point of the second half, Susquehanna went on an 18-4 run to take a four-point lead, 41-37, with 15 minutes to play. Moravian retook the lead, 42-41, on a trey by Brogan, and the Greyhounds moved in front for good with 11:16 remaining on a pair of Blair free throws. Moravian's largest lead of the game, 12 points, came at the 2:33 mark when Blair hit a jumper.
Moravian will return to action on Wednesday, February 18 when the squad hosts The University of Scranton for a Landmark Conference game in Johnston Hall tipping off at 7:00 p.m.
