O'Rourke Selected as Landmark Senior Scholar-Athlete for Women's Basketball

TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College senior guard Katie O'Rourke has been selected as the 2014 Landmark Conference Senior Scholar-Athlete for Women's Basketball.

The Landmark Conference selects 20 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics. The honorees must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, and sports information directors. Chosen at the end of each sport season, the winter six honorees will be announced over the next three days.

"This recognition is another terrific honor for Katie as she has consistently demonstrated what it means to be a student-athlete," stated Head Coach Mary Beth Spirk. "Her prowess on the court has been well documented and her success in the classroom mirrors exactly the kind of person any coach wants on their team. Katie is a leader on the court, in the classroom and on campus."

O'Rourke helped lead the Greyhounds to the 2014 NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament as an at-large selection, and Moravian finished the season with a 20-8 record and the squad also played in the Landmark Championship game.

On the court, O'Rourke averaged 13.3 points and 4.6 rebounds per game while dishing out 103 assists against just 91 turnovers in a team-high 814 minutes of action. She was selected as a Women's Basketball Coaches Association Division III Honorable Mention All-America and Women's DIII News Honorable Mention All-America, and O'Rourke also earned spots on the D3hoops.com All-Mid-Atlantic Region Third Team and the Landmark All-Conference First Team, earning the honor for a second straight year.

O'Rourke finished her career as the first player in school history to hit 1,000 point, 500 rebound, 300 assist, and 200 steal milestones. She had 1,019 points (23rd in the Moravian record book), 561 rebounds (14th all-time), 355 assists (third in school history) and 202 steals (seventh). She played in 109 career games, starting 100, and was on the court for 3,074 minutes in her career.

Off the court, O'Rourke has maintained a 3.73 grade-point average in mathematics and elementary education. O'Rourke, who is a seven-time member of Moravian's Dean's List, is student teaching this semester, currently at Northampton High School.

During her career, O'Rourke was named to the Landmark Conference Winter Academic Honor Roll three times, and she was on the 2013 Landmark Winter All-Academic Team. She also been active on campus as a student resident advisor, secretary for the Omicron Delta Kappa Honor Society, a member of Moravian's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and working as an academic tutor.

O'Rourke has also been very active in the Greyhounds' annual Play 4Kay fundraising efforts for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. She has helped Moravian raise over $46,600 over the last four years.
