Bill Nets a School Record 10 Goals in Win over Gwynedd Mercy

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian College freshman midfielder Liz Bill netted a school record 10 goals to lead the Greyhounds to a 21-2 non-conference victory over Gwynedd Mercy University Wednesday evening on John Makuvek Field.

"Tonight was a team effort," commented Head Coach Kristen Nicholson. "It was great to see multiple attackers finding the back of the cage. Overall, we worked well as a unit and I'm proud of what we accomplished."

Bill added an assist as she tied the school record with 11 points in a match, and Bill added four draw controls and a pair of ground balls while sophomore midfielder/attack Jillian Picciuto had five goals and four assists to go with team highs of five ground balls and five draw controls. Sophomore attach Jessica Pisano netted four goals for Moravian while sophomore attack Dalia Aguilar added a goal and an assist. Freshman midfielder Allie Brembt found the back of the goal once while junior attack Kyleigh McGovern had one assist.

Sophomore goalie Kelley Gavin recorded five saves in 33 minutes of action while junior keeper Elisabeth Pontius played the final 27 minutes of the contest. Freshman defender Allie Fisher contributed four draw controls and a pair of caused turnovers while McGovern had three ground balls. Freshman attach Sarah Kunzman and junior midfielder Kristen Baxter each had two ground balls and two caused turnovers while sophomore attack Kyleigh Miller, sophomore defender Jacqueline LaCava and junior midfielder Alexis Kersten each scooped up two ground balls.

The Griffins opened the scoring just 50 seconds into the match but Picciuto would answer 12 seconds later. Bill and Picciuto scored for a 3-1 Moravian lead before Gwynedd Mercy cut the lead to 3-2 five minutes into action. Moravian added 13 more goals to lead 16-2 at halftime and Bill scored five times in the first nine and a half minutes of the second half to break the school record and finish the scoring.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Saturday, March 25 when the squad hosts DeSales University in a non-conference match beginning at 1:00 p.m. on John Makuvek Field.
