Picciuto Breaks Single Match Scoring Record in Hounds' Win Over DeSales

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian College sophomore midfielder/attack Jillian Picciuto set a school record with 12 points on eight goals and four assists to lead the Greyhounds to a 19-5 victory over visiting DeSales University Saturday afternoon in a non-conference match on John Makuvek Field.

"This was a great overall team win against a crosstown rival," stated Head Coach Kristen Nicholson. "We wanted to come out strong and have multiple attackers scoring. We played great team defense and had a lot of caused turnovers. We are looking forward to our March of Dimes game against Lancaster Bible on Wednesday."

Picciuto also added seven draw controls, two ground balls and two caused turnovers in the victory. Freshman midfielder Allie Brembt netted a hat trick for the Greyhounds while freshman midfielder Liz Bill and junior attack Kyleigh McGovern each had two goals. Sophomore attach Jessica Pisano added a goal and two assists while sophomore attacks Dalia Aguilar and Kyleigh Miller and freshman attack Anna Kahnert each had one goal.

Sophomore goalie Kelley Gavin posted six saves in the victory and she added two ground balls while sophomore defender Jacqueline LaCava scooped up a team-high six ground balls to go with a pair of caused turnovers. Junior midfielders Alexis Kersten and Kristen Baxter each had four ground balls while freshman defender Allie Fisher had four draw controls to go with two ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers.

Picciuto opened the scoring 2:49 into action off of a pass from Pisano before the Bulldogs knotted the score at 1-1. Moravian scored three straight goals to build a 4-1 lead before DeSales scored again. Picciuto completed a hat trick by the 19:34 mark, and the Greyhounds lead 10-3 before two late first half goals by the Bulldogs set the halftime score at 10-5.

The Blue and Grey netted the only nine goals of the second half including two by Picciuto in the first 3:33 of the half. She would break the scoring mark on her finals goal of the afternoon with 6:31 remaining.

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, March 29 in a non-conference match versus Lancaster Bible College beginning at 7:00 p.m. on John Makuvek Field.
