Greyhounds Win 3rd Straight with Victory Over Lancaster Bible

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's lacrosse team won its third straight match with a 20-9 victory over Lancaster Bible College in non-conference action Wednesday evening on the Hounds' March of Dimes night.

"It was another great team effort tonight," stated Head Coach Kristen Nicholson. "I was very happy with the way our defense played together to shut down scoring plays. Our attack possessed the ball well and executed our offense nicely. We're looking forward to starting conference games on Saturday."

The Greyhounds, now 5-2 overall after their third consecutive win by more than 10 goals, were led by sophomore midfielder/attack Jillian Picciuto and freshman midfielder Liz Bill, who both netted seven goals in the victory with Picciuto adding four assists. Sophomore attack Dalia Aguilar and freshman midfielder Allie Brembt each scored a pair of goals while sophomore attack Kyleigh Miller had a goal and an assist and sophomore attack Jessica Pisano added one goal.

Sophomore goalie Kelley Gavin recorded seven saves for the Greyhounds while freshman defender Allie Fisher had seven draw controls and four ground balls. Bill contributed five draw controls and a pair of ground balls while junior midfielder Kristen Baxter had five ground balls and three caused turnovers. Junior midfielder Alexis Kersten contributed four caused turnovers for the Blue and Grey while Picciuto had three draw controls and freshman defender Dayna Trotter scooped up three ground balls.

Lancaster Bible scored the first goal of the match before four straight tallies by the Greyhounds including three from Picciuto gave the Blue & Grey a 4-1 lead with 22:37 left in the first half. After the Cougars cut the lead to 6-3, Bill and Brembt each scored twice to help Moravian lead 10-4 at the intermission.

Bill scored two more goals early in the second half but Lancaster Bible netted three tallies to pull within 12-7 with 22:47 remaining. Picciuto started a 6-0 run for Moravian just 24 seconds later, and she had four of the six goals as the Hounds pulled ahead 18-7 with just over 14 minutes to play.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to begin their 2017 Landmark Conference season on Saturday, April 1 when they host Susquehanna University at 1:00 p.m. on John Makuvek Field.
