Margiottiello & Lawton Honored as Landmark Conference Women's Soccer Athletes of the Week

TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College senior forward Valentina Margiottiello has been named the Landmark Conference Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week while junior goalie Jessica Lawton has been honored as the Defensive Player of the week for their performances over the last seven days.

The duo helped the Greyhounds to a 2-0-1 week including the championship at the Drew University Fall Festival this past weekend when the team went 1-0-1.

Margiottiello scored three of Moravian's five goals during the week and she added an assist for seven points. Margiottiello had two goals including converting on a penalty kick in the Greyhounds' 3-1 win over Penn State-Harrisburg last Wednesday evening on John Makuvek Field. She then had the opening goal in a 2-1 victory over Stockton University to begin the Drew Fall Festival.

"Valentina was tremendous all week," commented Head Coach Jeff Ykoruk. "Her energy level was great and she was very dynamic in the attacking third in all three games. She created and finished at a very high rate. Her fitness level is allowing her to play a full 90 which allows us to move her around during the course of a match."

Lawton had a 2-0-1 record for the week while making eight saves and posting a 0.37 goals-against average with one shutout. Lawton played the opening 45 minutes in the match versus Penn State-Harrisburg, and she picked up her second straight win with four saves in the victory over Stockton. Lawton finished the week with her first career shutout as she made four saves in a 0-0, double-overtime draw against Rutgers-Camden in the final match of the Drew Fall Fesitval.

"We are very happy with Jess and her performance to date," noted Ykoruk. "She has worked very hard in the offseason and it shows with her play. She has been improving every training session with our keeper coach and is providing us great leadership from the back."

Moravian, now 2-1-1 on the year, is scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, September 14 in a non-conference match beginning at 7:00 p.m.
