Duka's OT Winner at Goucher Puts Moravian in Landmark Conference Tournament

TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College sophomore defender Shae Duka scored her first goal of the season in the 95th minute to lift the Greyhounds to a 1-0 overtime victory in Landmark Conference action at Goucher College Wednesday evening as the Hounds clinched a berth in the Landmark Conference Tournament with the win.

Moravian, now 8-6-1 overall and 4-2 in Landmark Conference action, is now in a three-way tie with the Catholic University of America and Susquehanna University for second place in the Landmark standings. The Greyhounds host the River Hawks on Saturday and with a victory, the Blue and Grey will clinch the second seed in the tournament and a home semifinal match on Wednesday, November 2.

Duka, who is in her first season with the Greyhounds, pushed forward in overtime as Moravian had just its second corner kick of the match. Senior forward Valentina Margiottiello drove the kick into the top of the six-yard box just about even with the near post where she found Duka, who put the ball into the net for her first marker with Moravian.

Greyhound junior goalie Jessica Lawton made two saves for her third shutout of the season, stopping the only shot on goal she saw in each half. She did not face a shot in overtime.

Junior midfielder Abby Guman nearly got the Greyhounds off to a quick start but her shot was wide of the goal just 60 seconds into action. Sophomore forward Gabby Stelzmiller nearly put the Blue and Grey on the scoreboard in the 14th minute but was stopped while Margiottiello fired a shot on goal in the 37th minute.

In the second half, Stelzmiller ripped a shot on goal just five minutes into action, and Margiottiello followed with another shot at the keeper three minutes later, Freshman defender Kristen Parry had a shot in the 74th minute that was saved while Lawton made her lone stop just 30 seconds later. Duka nearly won the match in the 81st minute but her shot sailed high.

Moravian is scheduled to close out its 2016 season with a Landmark Conference match at Susquehanna University beginning at 1:00 p.m.
