Greyhounds Drop Double-Overtime Match at Drew

MADISON, N.J. --- The Moravian College women's soccer team had its three-match winning streak end in a 1-0, double-overtime loss at Drew University in Landmark Conference action Tuesday evening.

The Greyhounds, who fall to 6-5-1 overall and 2-2 in Landmark Conference play, had the first shot of the match from sophomore forward Gabby Stelzmiller in the eighth minute. Stelzmiller had another shot in the 28th minute before senior forward Valentina Margiottiello was just wide of the net in the 29th minute.

Stelzmiller started the second half with the first shot on goal for either team just 3:06 into action after the intermission. Drew followed up with its first shot on goal, the first of seven saves by Moravian junior goalie Jessica Lawton in the second half. Margiottiello put another shot on goal in the 54th minute while freshman defender Paige Weiss had the best opportunity in the 61st minute when her shot was tipped by the goalie into the cross bar.

With the teams still scoreless at the end of regulation, Moravian looked to dominate the first overtime with the only two shots as Margiottiello put a shot wide and sophomore forward Shae Duka getting a late shot on goal. The squads headed to a second overtime where Drew broke through in the 102nd minute for the win.

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Saturday, October 22 in a Landmark Conference match at Juniata College beginning at 1:00 p.m.
