Women's Volleyball Set to Host 14th Annual Greyhound Premiere to Start 2016 Slate

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's volleyball squad is set to host the 14th Annual Greyhound Premiere Invitational on Friday and Saturday, September 2-3 in Johnston Hall and Timothy Breidegam Fieldhouse to start the 2016 season.

Head Coach Shelley Bauder, who is entering her 24th year at Moravian, returns eight letterwinners and six starters from last year's 18-15 squad. The Hounds will play four matches in the Greyhound Premiere with contests against Centenary College at 4:00 p.m. and Medaille (N.Y.) College at 8:00 p.m. on Friday and matches versus Alvernia University at 12:00 p.m. and Pitt-Bradford at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Senior middle blocker Taylor Kornmann returns after being named to the Landmark All-Conference Second Team for a third straight season last fall when she posted 324 kills, a team-high 63 blocks, 122 digs and 30 service aces. Kornmann and fellow senior right side hitter Jaclyn Smith have been named team captains for 2016, and Smith contributed 138 kills, 115 digs and 44 blocks a year ago.

Junior outside hitter Mary Zacher led Moravian with 378 kills in 2015, and she added 414 digs, 39 service aces and 16 blocks while sophomore middle blocker Erin Tiger had 209 kills, 55 blocks, 32 digs and six service aces. Sophomore outside hitter Rachel Farmer  had 148 digs, 47 kills, 17 service aces and seven blocks in her collegiate debut last fall while senior right side hitter Courtney Kruscavage had seven kills and six digs.

Junior libero Jean Markovic is back to anchor the defense after leading the Hounds with 527 digs last year, and she added 68 assists and 47 service aces. Junior defensive specialist Ashton Galasso also returns after contributing 44 digs and 10 service aces in 2015.

Coach Bauder's group has worked hard in the preseason to bring together the returning players along with five new faces.
