Volleyball Falls to Arcadia in Non-Conference Action

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's volleyball team won the first set of its non-conference match versus Arcadia University in Johnston Hall Thursday evening but the Knights would come back to take the next three sets for the 3-1 win.

The Blue and Grey won the opening set 25-21 after falling behind early. Moravian led 6-2 in the second set before Arcadia scored seven straight points. The Hounds bounced back and led 16-12 in the set, and Moravian was up 21-17 before the Knights scored eight of the final nine points for a 25-22 win. The third game went back-and-forth with Arcadia eventually pulling out a 25-23 victory. Moravian kept the fourth set close and was down 16-15 before the Knights closed the match with nine of the last 12 points.

Sophomore middle blocker Erin Tiger led the Greyhounds with 16 kills while senior middle blocker Taylor Kornmann added 14 kills and three digs. Junior outside hitter Mary Zacher contributed a team-high 26 digs to go with 11 kills and four assists while freshman outside hitter Brooke Kusmider had five kills and 11 digs.

Freshman setter Victoria Kauffman led the offense with 38 assists to go with 12 digs and three kills while junior libero Jean Markovic added 12 digs. Senior right side hitter Jaclyn Smith contributed three digs and two kills while sophomore defensive specialist Bridgette Devlin had four digs.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Saturday, October 1 in a Landmark Conference quad match at Susquehanna University with the Hounds playing No. 10 Juniata College at 1:00 p.m. and the host River Hawks at 6:30 p.m.
