Greyhounds Race Past Bulldogs in Non-Conference Action

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University baseball squad scored seven runs in the second inning on the way to a 14-7 victory over visiting DeSales University in non-conference action at Gillespie Field Tuesday afternoon.

How It Happened

  • The Greyhounds took a 7-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Sophomore right fielder Matt Westcott drew a walk to lead off and then stole second base. Freshman second baseman Nathan Jones connected on an RBI single to chase Westcott home while graduate student left fielder David Olsakowski reached on an error. Graduate student designated hitter Cole Cherkas drew a walk to load the bases before Jones raced home on a wild pitch. Freshman third baseman Troy Rabosky ripped an RBI single that brought in Olsakowski while freshman shortstop David Vozzo was hit by a pitch to load the bases again. Sophomore catcher Wyatt Harrar drilled a three-RBI double down the left field line as Cherkas, Rabosky and Vozzo all scored
  • The Bulldogs countered with three runs in the top of the third and two more in the top of the fourth to pull within two runs at 7-5
  • Moravian answered with five runs in the bottom half of the fourth to push the edge to 12-5. Rabosky began the inning with a single and moved around the bases on a groundout and passed ball before coming home on an RBI single from Harrar. Westcott drew a walk while junior first baseman Sean Superka followed with an RBI double down the right field line to score Harrar. Jones hit a two-RBI triple into the right field corner as Westcott and Superka came across the plate while Olsakowski hit an RBI single to bring in Jones. The hit for Olsakowski was the 100th of his career to become the 43rd player in program history to reach 100 career hits and the second this season
  • DeSales scored once in the top of the fifth to make it 12-6
  • The Blue & Grey got the run back in the bottom of the sixth as Olsakowski was hit by a pitch, stole second and raced home on an RBI single from Cherkas
  • The Hounds scored their final run in the bottom of the eighth to stretch the advantage to 14-6. Superka was hit by a pitch to start the inning, and he raced home on an RBI sacrifice fly from freshman center fielder Luke Keitsock
  • The Bulldogs plated the final run in the top of the ninth frame 

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had 12 hits in the contest with Olsakowski going 3-for-4 with two runs, an RBI and a double while collecting his milestone hit
  • Harrar went 2-for-4 with four RBIs, two runs and a double while Jones was 2-for-5 with three RBIs, two runs and a triple
  • Rabosky had a 2-for-3 day with two runs and an RBI while Westcott and Superka both had one hit, two runs and an RBI with Superka adding a double
  • Cherkas registered a hit, a run and an RBI while Vozzo scored once and Keitsock added an RBI
  • Sophomore Nick Leonard made his first career start and had one strikeout in two innings to get the win. Sophomore Nate McBride had one strikeout in his inning of work while freshman Jack Steinel tossed a third of an inning. Freshman Luke Piripavel pitched 1.2 innings while freshmen EJ Youngling, Tyler Bonelli and Cam Elicier and sophomore Wes Griffith all tossed an inning with Bonelli registering one strikeout
