AUBURNDALE, Fla. --- The Moravian University baseball team had a 9-2 lead early in the game before falling to Clark (Mass.) University, 15-9, to begin the Hounds' trip to the RussMatt Invitational Monday at Lake Myrtle Park.
How It Happened
- The Greyhounds took a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when freshman third baseman Troy Rabosky connected on a solo home run to left center field, his first collegiate homer
- The Blue & Grey stretched the advantage to 4-0 with three runs in the top of the second frame. Sophomore right fielder Matt Westcott led off with a single and freshman catcher Ronnie Werkheiser followed with a two-run homer to left field for his first collegiate home run. Freshman second baseman Nathan Jones drew a walk and raced home on an RBI triple by graduate student center fielder David Olsakowski
- Clark got onto the scoreboard with two runs in the home half of the second inning to cut the score to 4-2
- Moravian scored again in the top of the third inning when sophomore first baseman Wyatt Harrar hit a one-out solo homer to left field to make it 5-2
- The Hounds tacked on four more runs in the top of the fourth frame for a 9-2 advantage. With Olsakowski on via a walk, graduate student designated hitter Cole Cherkas reaching on a single and Rabosky safe on a fielder's choice to load the bases with two outs, Harrar connected on a grand slam home run to left field to clear the bases
- The Cougars pushed three runs home in the bottom of the fourth inning to make it 9-5 before Clark scored ten runs in the bottom of the fifth to finish the scoring in the game
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian had 11 hits in the contest with Harrar going 3-for-4 with two runs, a double, two home runs and five RBIs to give him four career homers and a pair of grand slams as a Greyhound
- Jones was 2-for-3 with a run while Westcott went 2-for-4 with a run and a double
- Werkheiser had a hit, a run, a homer and two RBIs while Rabosky contributed two runs, a hit, a homer and an RBI
- Olsakowski recorded a hit, a run, a triple and an RBI while Cherkas had a hit and scored once
- Freshman Andrew Sagrestano made the start on the mound, registering one strikeout in four innings of work while sophomore Caden Ward faced four batters. Freshman Brandon Holzinger tossed one inning while graduate student Aaron Flyte had one strikeout over the final three innings of the contest
