The Moravian College golf team opened the 2011-12 Empire 8 Conference Championship Tournament with a team score of 300 at the Yahnundasis Golf Club to put the Greyhounds in second place of eight teams. St. John Fisher College is in first place after the opening round with a 294 while Moravian leads The University of Scranton by a stroke and Elmira College by three strokes.
Greyhound senior Scott Stires is currenlty tied for second of the 48 golfers in the tournament with a two-over par round of 71 while junior Thomas Fenyak and senior John Dimler are tied for eighth with rounds of 75. Senior Sam Stires is tied for 22nd with an opening round of 79 while freshman Mark Saeger is tied for 30th with an 82. Junior Aaron Thieme is 39th with an 87 in the first round.
