Fenyak, Scott Stires Earn Empire 8 All-Conference Honors as Greyhounds Finish 3rd

HERSHEY, Pa. --- Junior Thomas Fenyak of the Moravian College golf team earned Empire 8 All-Conference First Team honors while senior Scott Stires earned a spot on the Second Team as the Greyhounds finished the 2011-12 Empire 8 Conference Championships in third place after the final round Sunday at the Hershey Country Club.

Moravian finished with a team score of 1253 including 642 in the two spring rounds on the East Course of the Hershey Country Club on Saturday and Sunday.  The Greyhounds had a 611 after the first two rounds at the Yahnundasis Golf Club in New Hartford, New York last September.  St. John Fisher won the team title at 1194 with a 603 this spring while Elmira College took second at 1247 with a 642 this weekend.  The University of Scranton was fourth at 1273 with a 659 for the spring.

Fenyak earns All-Conference honors for the second straight season after being on the Second Team last spring.  Fenyak had a four-round score of 299, finishing third of the 35 golfers that played all 72 holes.  He finished the tournament with a 76 on the par 71 course Sunday, tied for the second lowest round of the day. Tyler McArdell of St. John Fisher was first with a 289 tournament score while Thad Wier III of St. John Fisher was second at 296.

Stires placed tenth in the tournament with a 72-hole score of 313 including an 84 on Sunday to earn All-Conference Second Team accolades.  The top five golfers are named to the First Team while those finishing sixth through tenth make the Second Team.

Senior John Dimler finished in a tie for 13th in the tournament at 319 with a final round of 84 Sunday while senior Sam Stires took 19th overall at 327, also with a closing round of 84. Junior Aaron Thieme took 24th place at 336 with a final round of 77, the fourth lowest closing round on Sunday.  Junior Tyler Thompson closed out the Moravian line-up with 95 Sunday. Thompson was a member of the Greyhounds' football team last fall and unable to play the opening rounds.

Moravian will close out its 2011-12 season on Tuesday, April 24th when the squad hosts the Lehigh Valley Collegiate Cup with Lehigh University, Lafayette College and Muhlenberg College on the Weyhill Course at the Saucon Valley Country Club beginning at 1:00 p.m.
