Golf Finishes Third at Lehigh Valley Collegiate Cup

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College golf team closed out its 2011-12 season with a third place finish at the annual Lehigh Valley Collegiate Cup hosted by the Greyhounds on the Weyhill Course at Saucon Valley Country Club Tuesday.

Lafayette College placed first with a five-man team score of 371 while Lehigh University was second with a 375. Moravian turned in a team total of 390 while Muhlenberg College had a 417. By finishing ahead of the Mules, the Greyhounds clinched at least a tie for the annual Matte Award between the two schools.  Moravian currently has an 8-7 lead with the schools set for a men's tennis match on Friday to finish out the 2011-12 award.

Junior Aaron Thieme led the Greyhounds with a three-over par round of 75 on the par 72 Weyhill Course that played at 7,071 yards Tuesday.  Thieme was tied for seventh of the 27 golfers in the tournament while Carter Rufe of Lafayette had a low round of 73.  Junior Thomas Fenyak was 11th with a round of 77 while seniors Sam Stires and Scott Stires each had rounds of 79, which was tied for 13th.  Junior Tyler Thompson finished with a round of 80 while senior John Dimler carded an 81.  Sophomore Eric Schultz rounded out the Moravian line-up with a 99.
