Golfers Place 4th at Glenmaura Invitational

MOOSIC, Pa. --- The Moravian College golf team moved up one spot on the second day of action to finish fourth of nine teams at the Glenmaura National Collegiate Invitational hosted by The University of Scranton at Glenmaura National Golf Course Monday.

The Greyhounds finished with a team score of 615 that included a 301 on the second day of action while the host Royals won the tournament with a 603 after a 306 four-man score on Monday. McDaniel College placed second overall at 611 while York College of Pennsylvania jumped from sixth to third overall at 614 after a team low of 294 Monday. Moravian moved past Swarthmore College and Gettysburg College Monday as both schools finished with 616 scores.

Senior John Dimler shot an even par round of 71 on the Glenmaura National Golf Course Monday to finish second of the 45 golfers with a 36-hole total of 147, just one stroke off of the lead. Junior Thomas Fenyak was tied for tenth with a two-day total of 153 after a second round of 79 while senior Scott Stires was 22nd in the tournament with a score of 156 after a second round of 76.  Senior Sam Stires also had a round of 76 on Monday to finish in a tie for 25th with a two-day total of 160 while junior Tyler Thompson tied for 31st at 164 after a final round of 78.

With all five Greyhounds shooting in the 70s in the second round on Monday, it marked the first time since September 26, 2003 at the Susquehanna Fall Invitational that all five Moravian golfers broke 80 for a round.  The last time Moravian had six golfers in the 70s was a tri-match versus Albright College and Lebanon Valley College during the 1969 season.

Moravian will return to action on Saturday and Sunday, April 21 and 22 in the third and fourth rounds of the 2011-12 Empire 8 Conference Championship.  The spring rounds will be played on the East Course of the Hershey Country Club, and the Greyhounds enter the final two rounds in third place of eight teams.
