DANIELSVILLE, Pa. --- The Moravian College golf team opened the 2012 spring portion of its schedule in a tie for fifth place of 18 teams at the Annual Moravian Spring Invitational played at the Woodstone Country Club Thursday.
The Greyhounds had a team score of 336 along with William Paterson University while Alvernia University finished first in the team standings with a 321, one stroke ahead of The University of Scranton. Alvernia's Casey Osborne and Scranton's Justin Riley each had rounds of 75 on the par 72 course Thursday but Osborne was the medalist with a lower back nine score of 39 to 40 for Riley.
Junior Thomas Fenyak led the Moravian golfers with a 79, which tied him for seventh of the 91 golfers in the tournament. Freshman Scott Nevenglosky and senior Scott Stires were tied for 31st with rounds of 85 while senior John Dimler and junior Tyler Thompson finished in a tie for 34th with rounds of 86. Senior Sam Stires and sophomore Eric Schultz rounded out the Moravian golfers with rounds of 87 to finish in a tie for 43rd.
The Greyhounds will return to action on Monday, April 2 when the head to the Lebanon Valley College Spring Invitational at the Lebanon Country Club beginning at 12:30 p.m.
