TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian University freshman sprinter Javon McKay has been named the Landmark Conference Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week for his performance last week.

McKay won the 60-meter dash at the non-scoring Lehigh University Fast Times Before Finals in an All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference qualifying time of 6.93 seconds, the fourth fastest time in school history, after placing fourth in the preliminaries in 7.05 seconds. McKay was also third in the 200-meter dash final, winning his heat in a time of 23.05 seconds.

"Javon was someone we've been extremely excited about," stated Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Jesse Baumann. "He was one of the better sprinters in New Jersey last year, and that was without running winter track up to this point, so we had a feeling he'd ascend pretty quickly. He already has some great starting technique, which is clearly crucial in a 60m. As he continues to gain some strength and speed in training, and we work on some of his top speed mechanics, we feel he's still only scratching the surface of what he can do.

"In just a week he dropped nearly 1/3 of a second in the 200m and nearly a tenth of a second in the 60m," continued Baumann. "He may have a shot at Eric Woodruff's 60m record this winter, and if he can correct a few running mechanics we've seen thus far, we don't feel NCAAs are out of the question even as a freshman. It's been a really impressive start so far that we're excited about continuing to build on moving forward."

The Greyhounds are not scheduled to compete again until Saturday, January 20, 2024 when the squad hosts the Moravian Indoor Meet at Lehigh University's Rauch Fieldhouse with action starting at 10:00 a.m.
