TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian University junior Nathan Hajel has been named as the Landmark Conference Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week for his performance last week.
=Hajel paced the Greyhounds with a time of 26:16.6 to finish in 105th of the 400 competitors in the 8,000-meter Brown race in the annual Paul Short Run. Moravian was 38th of 47 teams in the Brown 8K race, the second of three races in the meet. Hajel's time was his second-best of the season and just 12 seconds off his personal best for 8,000 meters
"Nate got out a little farther back in the field than we had initially planned, which is typically problematic when courses are as muddy and slow as Lehigh was on Saturday," stated Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Jesse Baumann. "However, he's as talented as anyone I've ever coached at methodically working through a race. He did this incredibly well at Bucknell last spring in the 10k, our conference meet 5k in May, Rowan in XC a few years, ago, but then Saturday may have been his most impressive display of this yet. He wound up improving 120 places from the mile to the finish, including around spots 40 just in the last mile alone. You don't often see improvements like that, so Nate deserves an incredible amount of credit for the focus and work it took to improve as dramatically as he did on Saturday."
Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Saturday, October 14 at the Rowan University Border Battle in New Jersey.
