HUNTINGDON, Pa. --- The Moravian University men's cross country team won its third straight and fifth overall Landmark Conference Championship, capturing the 2023 meet hosted by Juniata College Friday morning at the Sunset Golf Club.
How It Happened
- The Greyhounds finished the meet with 37 points, 11 points ahead of runner-up Elizabethtown College
- Moravian adds to its Landmark titles won in 2011, 2012, 2021 and 2022, the conference championships is the 11th for the program since 1993
- Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Jesse Baumann and assistant coaches Jon D'Ottavio and Molly Sear were named the Landmark Conference Men's Cross Country Coaching Staff of the Year for the third consecutive fall
- Junior Nathan Hajel led the Hounds individually as he won the 8,000-meter race with a time of 26:08.02 to earn Landmark Conference Men's Cross Country Performer of the Year honors and a spot on the Landmark All-Conference First Team
- Junior Owen Nahf trailed Hajel by just four and a half seconds to place second of the 98 runners in 26:12.57 to also garner Landmark All-Conference First Team accolades
- Sophomore Bryan Kerchner came in eighth overall for the Blue & Grey in 26:44.41 to garner a spot on the Landmark All-Conference Second Team, and senior Josh Mangini placed 10th with a time of 26:51.94 to also make the Landmark All-Conference Second Team
- Freshman Logan Betyeman took 16th in 27:20.28 to round out the Greyhounds' top five scorers, and he earned a spot on the Landmark All-Conference Honorable Mention squad
- Freshman Will Weinlein placed 24th in the meet with a time of 25:57.17 while senior Casey Frank finished one spot back in 28:01.91
- Junior Jake Farrell was 31st in the race with a time of 28:24.75 while graduate student Christian Jancsarics took 35th in 28:30.10
- Freshman Michael Schippnick placed 41st in 28:47.26 while junior Geoffrey Kleinberg was 42nd with a time of 28:48.86
- Senior Brendon Ward finished 56th in 29:49.35 while freshman Gavin Hefferan was a spot back in 29:50.88 and freshman Adam Plummer took 58th in a time of 29:52.78
- Rounding out the Moravian runners were senior Paul Petre in 60th in 30:03.31, freshman Xander DiMatteo was 62nd in a time of 30:09.82, freshman Jackson Royds took 69th in 30:56.9, sophomore Jackson Gaffney placed 74th in a time of 31:22.48, freshman Dylan Benbow in 82nd in 32:42.70 and junior Wyatt Poniktera was 90th in a time of 34:35.94
