MacDonnell, Aussenheimer named to LVSCB Scholar-Athlete Team

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Junior Emily MacDonnell and freshman Jack Aussenheimer of the Moravian College basketball teams have been named to the Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Scholar-Athlete Team at the organization's second luncheon of the 2014-15 season at DeSales University in on Thursday afternoon.

The Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Organization is made up of the seven small college schools in the Lehigh Valley including NCAA Division II schools East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania and Kutztown University of Pennsylvania and NCAA Division III schools Cedar Crest College, Delaware Valley College, DeSales University, Moravian College and Muhlenberg College.

MacDonnell, a starting guard for the Greyhounds, has helped the Moravian women open the year with an 9-6 overall record and a 5-2 mark in Landmark Conference action. MacDonnell started the season by hitting two of her three free throws with .03 seconds on the clock at Muhlenberg College to win the game 61-60. She also earned her first career double-double against Immaculata University with 12 points and 13 assists which was one shy of the Greyhounds single season record. MacDonnell is averaging 6.6 points per game, and leads the teams in assists per-game with 3.9, she has five blocks and is maintaining a 3.3 GPA while majoring in Nutrition.

"Emily exemplifies what a student athlete means," commented Head Coach Mary Beth Spirk. "She excels on the court, in the classroom and in the community. Emily has been successful and will continue to be successful as she brings positive energy in everything that she is involved in here at Moravian. Her passion in all areas, basketball, academics and service is contagious. She is a true student-athlete."

Joining MacDonnell on the Scholar-Athlete Team were Emily Lesher of Muhlenberg, Jen Napolitano of DeSales, Eireann Anastasi of Delaware Valley, Andrea Veres of East Stroudsburg DeJanet Lantion of Cedar Crest College and Kelsey Watson of Kutztown.

Aussenheimer, a freshman guard, has been an integral part of the Greyhounds' this season. He has seen action in eight games and has contributed 17 points, seven rebounds, five assists and two steals in 45 minutes of action while majoring in Business and minoring in Accounting at Moravian while earning a 3.6 GPA.

"Jack is a great choice for our Scholar-Athlete as a freshman making the Dean's List," stated Head Coach Jim Walker. "He has earned playing time with hardwork in practice, and he does all the things we want him to do as a player both on and off the court. His hardwork and positive attitude contributes to his success in the classroom and we couldn't ask for a better student-athlete."

Joining Aussenheimer on the Scholar-Athlete Team were Drew Swedberg of Muhlenberg, Travis Bryan of DeSales, Zach Sibel of Delaware Valley, Matt Tobin of East Stroudsburg, Martin Dietrich of Kutztown.

The next Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Luncheon is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 17 at 11:30 a.m., where the LVSCB 2015 Team and Player of the Year awards will be announced.
