O'Neil Nets Career-High in Hard-Fought Game at Elizabethtown

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Junior forward Ryan O'Neil netted a career-high 11 points and sophomore forward Brandon McGuire picked up his eighth double-double of the season as the Greyhounds dropped a tough 72-66 decision at Elizabethtown College in Landmark Conference action Saturday.

O'Neil added a pair of blocked shots in 18 minutes off the bench while McGuire finished with 14 points, 13 rebounds and a pair of blocks. Senior guard Izel Dickerson joined the duo in double figures with 11 points, and he added five rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Sophomore guard Sean Hanna had eight points, all coming in the first 20 minutes of action, while junior guard Jarrod Dilts tossed in seven points. Senior forward Garrett Kashmer contributed six points and six rebounds for the Greyhounds while freshman forward Riley Hengler pulled down four boards.

The host Blue Jays built an early five-point lead, 10-5, in the opening four and a half minutes of action before Moravian pulled in front, 18-17, on a three-pointer by Hanna at the 9:52 mark. The Greyhounds had a the lead twice more before the intermission but headed to the locker room down 31-28 as Elizabethtown scored the final four points of the half while holding the Hounds scoreless for the final 2:29.

Dickerson knotted the score at 31-31 when he connected on a three-pointer to open the second half score, and the Hounds retook the lead, 37-36, with 17:19 to go on a fast break lay-up from Dilts. That started a 6-0 run for Moravian that put the squad up 41-36 after another fast break basket, this time from Kashmer.

Elizabethtown answered with a 9-2 run to take a 45-43 lead but the Greyhounds tied the score for the eighth time in the game when freshman guard Matt Cardonne hit a three-pointer to make the score 49-49 with 10:31 remaining. The Blue Jays used a 13-4 run to take control of the game for the remainder of the contest.

Moravian is slated to return to action on Wednesday, January 14 when the Hounds welcome Goucher College to Johnston Hall for a Landmark Conference contest tipping off at 7:00 p.m.
