Wright, Dickerson Named to LVSCB Team of the Year

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Seniors Alexis Wright and Izel Dickerson from the Moravian College basketball teams have been named to the Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Team of the Year by the LVSCB Organization at its final luncheon of the 2014-15 season at DeSales University.

The Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Organization is made up of the seven small college schools in the Lehigh Valley including NCAA Division II schools East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania and Kutztown University of Pennsylvania and NCAA Division III schools Cedar Crest College, Delaware Valley College, DeSales University, Moravian College and Muhlenberg College.

Dickerson, a point guard, became the 20th player in program history to earn his 1,000th career point on Monday night against The United States Merchant Marine Academy. Dickerson, who has consistently held the second spot in most statistical categories all season for the Hounds including points per game (14.1), assists (53), steals (25) and 3-point field goals (28) and led the Hounds in minutes (31.8). This is his second consecutive LVSCB Team of the Year honor.

"The significant thing is his consistency excellent play over four years," Head Coach Jim Walker said. "Some players are either up and down or have their last two years that are good over their careers, but he has averaged pretty close to mid-teens his entire career. His ability to play both ends of the floor by defending well and to have multiple skills on offense with making passes as well as scoring are hard things to do that only some players possess and is what I always found as one of his best attributes."

Joining Dickerson on the Team of the Year were Francis Arnold of Delaware Valley, Cody Deal of DeSales, Matt Tobin of East Stroudsburg,  Tyler Brooks of Kutztown and Malique Killing of Muhlenberg. Matt Tobin was named the Peter Nevin Men's Player of the Year for the 2014-15 season by the LVSCB Organization.

Wright, a forward, has helped Moravian to a 13-11 overall record and a 9-6 Landmark Conference record. The Greyhounds could find their way into a playoff situation if they win their next game and get help by another team losing. Wright and junior forward Alesha Marcks have been trading the top spot for points per-game and currently sit with .1 between the two Marcks at 15.8 and Wright at 15.7. Wright, who won the LVSCB Pete Nevins Women's Player of the Year her sophomore year, and missed most of last season with an injury came back in top form for her senior year. She leads the team in rebounds with 12.1 per-game and blocks with 56. She is currently eight in school history for points (1,297), second in rebounds (911), third in blocks (195).

"Alexis is as good a player that I have ever coached," commented Head Coach Mary Beth Spirk. "She is athletic, quick, strong and very talented on offense and on defense. Her calm, unflappable demeanor on the court is what adds to her talent and has her rising above the rest. She is consistently doubled and tripled team, yet her focus on the next play no matter if that last play was good or bad helps to make her such a success on the court. Alexis has had a great career. Her numbers speak for themselves, but it is her quiet methodical approach to the game that helps her get to the next level. She is easy to coach and well-liked by opponents and teammates."

Joining Wright on the Team of the Year were Breonna Lewis of Cedar Crest College, Brenna Coll of Delaware Valley College, Morgan McCollianof DeSales University, Jessica Martin of East Stroudsburg University, Advia Campbell of Kutztown and Leanna Tallamy of Muhlenberg. Tallamy was named the Peter Nevin Women's Player of the Year for the 2014-15 season by the LVSCB Organization.
