McGuire Nets Career-High in Landmark Win Over Goucher

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Sophomore forward Brandon McGuire scored a career-high 29 points in a 69-66 win over Goucher College Wednesday night in Johnston Hall for the Greyhounds first Landmark Conference win of the season.

McGuire would also bring down nine rebounds while senior guard Izel Dickerson had a career-high of seven assists, two shy of a school record. Dickerson would go 6-of-6 from the foul line while tossing in 19 points and collecting four rebounds. Junior forward Ryan O'Neil contributed 10 points in the victory while grabbing three boards.

The Greyhounds jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead over the Gophers with McGuire scoring the first two points of the game while sophomore guard Sean Hanna hit a three-pointer before and another layup by McGuire before the visitors got on the board. Six points by O'Neil would put the Hounds up by 11 with 11:42 left in the first half.

McGuire would score five unanswered points that gave the Hounds a 12-point lead, 26-14, with 7:08 in the first. Moravian would go on a 12 point run, Dickerson hit a three and the next time down the court would connect on a layup. Freshman guard/forward Riley Hengler would hit a three making it 36-21 Hounds. O'Neil and Dickerson both connected on layups giving the Greyhounds a 40-23 lead heading into halftime.

Moravian would trade baskets most of the second half but still held over a 10 point lead on the Gophers until they cut the deficit to eight making it 46-38 with 12:46 left to play. A free throw and a layup by sophomore guard Isaiah Jennings gave the Hounds a 11 point lead again.

Goucher would close the gap cutting lead to a three point game, 53-50, with 7:16 still to play. Greyhounds took the lead again, 59-50 with 5:04 on the clock by back-to-back plays where Dickerson found an open McGuire under the hoop. The teams would trade baskets once again, but four points by Dickerson gave the Greyhounds a seven- point lead with 17 seconds left to play as they held on to win 69-66.

Moravian will return to action on Sunday, January 18 when they host Penn State-Lehigh Valley in a non-conference game in Johnston Hall at 2:00 p.m.
