Men's Basketball Rally Falls Short at USMMA

KINGS POINT, N.Y. --- The Moravian College men's basketball team traveled to The United States Merchant Marine Academy in search of their second straight Landmark Conference win but fell in a hard-fought battle, 77-66. 

Junior guard Jarrod Dilts scored a team-high 14 points and had three rebounds, three steals, two assists and one block. Sophomore guard Sean Hanna had 13 points, a career-high five assists while tying his career-high in rebounds with five. Sophomore forward Brandon McGuire tossed in 12 points and brought down five rebounds while senior guard Izel Dickerson added 11 points, three rebounds and an assists. 

The Greyhounds rallied back from a eight point deficit early in the first half and take the lead when McGuire hit a three with 13:52 left in the first half. Dilts and Hanna would hit back-to-back three-pointers to keep a slight lead, 19-16, with just over 11:30 left in the first half. The Hounds shot 54.5 percent from behind the three-point line which gave them an eight point lead with 7:08 in the half. The teams would trade points and three at the buzzer for the Mariners gave them a one point lead, 36-35, at halftime. 

Merchant Marine came out with a hot hand in the second half, the Hounds were able to cut the lead late in the half to seven points, 64-57, with a three by McGuire. Despite going 10-of-13 from the free-throw line, the Blue and Grey never recovered. 

Moravian returns to Johnston Hall on Saturday, January 31 with tip-off set for 4:00 p.m. against The Catholic University of America in more Landmark Conference action.
