Ampietro Named Landmark Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week

TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College junior pitcher Nicolas Ampietro has been named the Landmark Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week for his performance last week.

Ampietro earned the victory on the mound in the Greyhounds' final game at the Hampden-Sydney (Va.) College Classic as Moravian posted a 5-2 win over the host Tigers to improve to 2-1 on the season. Ampietro tossed six innings, allowing six hits and two runs, only one earned, to go with three strikeouts and no walks in the contest.

"Nic pitched a really good game," commented Head Coach Paul Engelhardt. "This early in the season, you want to see a pitcher under control, and able to throw his pitches effectively and with control. He worked ahead in almost every at bat, and had a lot of weakly hit balls in play. Right out of the gym, it was more than we could have wanted. We are very hopeful Nic is finding his form off the mound. He has the ability to be a plus arm for us, and help us accomplish some goals we set."

In Moravian's other two games of the weekend, Ampietro started at second base and went 2-for-5 at the plate with a double, and he also had two putouts and nine assists in 11 chances in the field.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Tuesday, March 1 when the squad heads to No. 5 Kean University for a non-conference game beginning at 3:30 p.m.
