Savite & Zaloga Hit Milestones in Final Non-Conference Game of 2016 Season at DeSales

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. --- Moravian College seniors Charles Savite and Anthony Zaloga each hit milestones Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action at DeSales University but the Greyhounds ended up falling to the Bulldogs, 6-1, in the Hounds' final non-conference game of the 2016 season.

Savite played in his school record 161st game, and he became just the third player in school history to reach 200 career hits with a solo home run, his fifth homer of the season, in the top of the seventh for Moravian's only run of the game. Savite added a single later in the game to go 2-for-4 with two of the Greyhounds' four hits in the contest. Savite already owned school records for at-bats, now with 613, and putouts, now with 1,319.

Zaloga started on the mound for Moravian, and recorded four strikeouts in three-plus innings of action to become the 14th pitcher to reach 100 career strikeouts for the Greyhounds. Zaloga allowed three runs on seven hits and a walk to go with his strikeouts. Sophomore Bryan Schoch had three strikeouts in two innings of action while freshmen Kevin Shields and Billy Roethke also saw action on the mound. Shields had one strikeout in two innings of action while Roethke retired all three batters he faced.

DeSales took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning, and the Bulldogs added four more runs in the fourth for a 6-0 lead.

Moravian, 18-19 overall, will close out its 2016 regular season and Landmark Conference slate with a three-game series at The United States Merchant Marine Academy beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 30 with first pitch at 1:00 p.m. in Kings Point, New York.

The Greyhounds have already clinched a berth in the 2016 Landmark Conference Tournament and can finish anywhere from second to fourth in the standings depending on the action this weekend. If the Blue and Grey end up in second place, they will host a Landmark Conference Semifinal series at Gillespie Field on May 7-8.
