Hounds Fall to Mitchell & Georgetown on Final Day at Snowbird Classic

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. --- The Moravian College baseball team dropped a pair of games on its final day of the Snowbird Classic in Port Charlotte, Florida, falling to Mitchell (Conn.) College, 15-7, in the afternoon, and NCAA Division I Georgetown University, 8-1, in a night game at North Charlotte Park.

The Greyhounds had seven hits versus Georgetown in the nightcap with freshman outfielder Austin Markowski connecting on a double.

Sophomore Nicholas Mazzella got the start on the mound versus the Hoyas and allowed eight runs, seven earned, on 10 hits and a walk to go with one strikeout in four-plus innings of action. Senior Anthony Martino tossed two scoreless innings with one hit, three walks and three strikeouts while senior designated hitter Charles Savite made his first appearance of the spring on the mound over the final two inning, and Savite allowed two hits.

Georgetown opened the scoring with three runs in the first inning and two more in the third for a 5-0 lead. The Greyhounds pushed their run across the plate in the top of the fifth inning when senior third baseman Alex Bull had a one-out single and scored on a two-out RBI single by senior outfielder Cameron Leon to left center. The Hoyas added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth to finish off the scoring.

Moravian is scheduled to return to action with its 2016 home opener on Wednesday, March 16 when the Greyhounds welcome rival Muhlenberg College to Gillespie Field with first pitch slated for 4:00 p.m.
