BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College baseball team jumped out to an early first inning lead but the Greyhounds ended up dropping a 19-4 decision to visiting Susquehanna University in the final game of a Landmark Conference series Sunday at Gillespie Field.

The Hounds were limited to seven hits in the game with senior catcher Mike Roethke going 1-for-2 with a pair of RBIs. Roethke also had seven putouts to move into fourth in school history with 683 putouts, the most for a catcher in the Moravian record books.

The Blue and Grey scored four times in the bottom of the first inning for a 4-0 advantage. Freshman right fielder Mike Mittl singled with one out, and he would end up on third after a stolen base and a balk. Senior third baseman Alex Bull drove in Mittl with an RBI single before senior first baseman Charles Savite and senior designated hitter Cameron Leon reached on errors to load the bases. Freshman shortstop Evan Kulig drew a walk to score Bull, and then Roethke ripped a two-RBI single to bring Savite and Leon across the plate.

Susquehanna answered with three runs in the top of the second inning, and the Crusaders moved ahead with four runs on the top of the third frame. 

Moravian used six pitchers in the contest with junior Nicolas Ampietro  making the start and striking out three batters in 2.2 innings of action. Senior Tommy Natale-Drown also had three strikeouts in two innings of work while seniors Hunter Guard and J.J. Jordan each had one strikeout in their appearances. Sophomore Clay Weidemoyer and senior Anthony Martino also saw action on the mound with Weidemoyer limiting Susquehanna to a hit and a walk in his 2.1 innings.

The Hounds are slated to return to action on Wednesday, April 20 in a non-conference game at Alvernia University beginning at 4:00 p.m.
