Greyhounds Fall to Misericordia in 12

Bethlehem, Pa. --- The Moravian College baseball team lost a hard-fought, 12-inning battle to non-conference opponent Misericordia University Wednesday afternoon at Gillespie Field. The Greyhounds would fall by a final of 5-1 in the 12th inning.

Starting the game on the mound for the Blue and Grey was junior Nicolas Ampietro, who threw six scoreless innings and only gave up four hits and struck out four more. Also seeing action were seniors Ian Carbone, Hunter Guard, sophomore Nicholas Mazzella and freshman Rhett Jacoby. Carbone, Guard and Jacoby all pitched one inning, while Mazzella finished the game with three innings pitched. Carbone had one strike out in his inning while Jacoby sat down two batters.

Leading the Greyhounds at the plate was freshman designated hitter Mike Mittl, who went 2-for-6 with Moravian's lone RBI. Also grabbing a hit in the game were senior third baseman Alex Bull, junior centerfielder Anthony Gaetaniello, and freshmen right fielder Austin Markowski and shortstop Evan Kulig.

The Greyhounds would score in the bottom of the 5th after Kulig and Gaetaniello got on base on walks. Kulig would find home on Mittl's single to right field. Moravian would keep the lead into the eight when Misericordia tied the game at 1-1. After that both teams battled back-and-forth until Misericordia found four runs in the top of the 12th to make the final 5-1.

The Greyhounds will play next on Thursday, March 31 at 3:30 p.m. at the University of Scranton in Landmark Conference action to make up for the game that was rained out on Monday.
