O'Rourke's Double-Double Powers Moravian Past Drew, 60-52

The Moravian College women's basketball team defeated Landmark Conference foe Drew University, 60-52 Saturday afternoon. Sophomore guard Katie O'Rourke led the Greyhounds behind her first career double-double off of 12 points and ten rebounds.

Senior guard Danielle Barber would get the Rangers on the board first with two free throws. Freshman forward Alexis Wright answered back with a layup. Senior forward Alexandra Blair would bank a shot in off the backboard as Moravian took its first lead at 4-2.

Senior forward Victoria Ault would put Drew up 7-5 after a three-pointer from straight away. O'Rourke would answer back with layup to tie the game at seven with 14 minutes left in the half. Senior guard Hilary Murray would make the layup on the next possession as Moravian would retake the lead at 9-7.

Sophomore forward Logan Cavanaugh would tie the game up at 11 for Drew with a jumper with just under 11 minutes left in the half. The Rangers would take the lead on the next possession with a layup from Ault. A steal from sophomore guard Laura Casey would lead to a layup from Alexandra Blair to put the Hounds up 17-13 with 7:38 remaining in the half.

After a layup from junior guard Amanda Kreuder, senior guard Katherine Luby answered with a three-pointer to make the score 19-17, Moravian with 4:20 to go in the first. The two teams would keep exchanging baskets as O'Rourke would make a layup to give the
Greyhounds a 25-21 lead with two minutes remaining in the half. Moravian would end up taking a 27-21 lead into the locker room.

The Greyhounds shot 43-percent from the field while Drew shot 30-percent from the field in the first half. Moravian out rebounds the Rangers 22 to 14, but Drew had one less turnover in the first half. Alexandra Blair totaled 13 points and three blocks while Ault had seven points for the Rangers in the first half.

The Rangers would start the second half on a 6-1 run to bring them back within one point of the lead three minutes in. Wright would end that run with a steal and a layup at the other end. Junior guard Jennifer Mateo would bring Drew right back within one point at 30-29 with just under 16 minutes remaining in the contest.

With 12 minutes to go, a layup from Casey would push Moravian's lead to 36-32. Sophomore forward Laura Jordan would make another layup on the next possession to make the score 38-32 with 11 minutes to go. Sophomore guard Alyssa Hann would dash to the hoop for the layup with 8:26 left in the game to give the Greyhounds a 42-34 lead.

Senior forward Britta Olsen would make an easy layup to get Drew back within three points at 43-40 with 6:38 left in the game. Alexandra Blair would than make a tough layup to put the Hounds up by seven at 47-40 with five minutes to go. O'Rourke would extend Moravian's lead to eight points at 49-41 after an offensive rebound and the put back.

With just under two minutes remaining, Murray would hit two free throws as Moravian would go up 52-43. An easy layup from Olsen would close Drew's gap back to seven points on the next possession. That would be as close as the Rangers would get as the Greyhounds would go onto win 60-52.

Alexandra Blair finished with 18 points, nine rebounds, three steals and three blocks. Jordan racked up six points and six boards while Wright had seven points, six rebounds and five blocks. Murray put up six points, four rebounds and three steals while Kreuder had five points.

Ault led the Rangers with 11 points and four rebounds while Barber had nine points, 12 rebounds and five steals.

Moravian shot 38-percent from the field while Drew shot 37-percent from the field for the game. The Greyhounds out rebounds the Rangers 44 to 34, but Drew had one less turnover in the game.

Moravian travels to Juniata College Friday, January 20th for a Landmark Conference contest set for 7:30 p.m.
