Moravian Set to Host Semifinals & Final of ECAC DIII South Championships March 3rd & 4th

CENTERVILLE, Mass. --- Moravian College is set to host the semifinals and finals of the 2012 Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Women's South Basketball Championship in Johnston Hall on Saturday and Sunday, March 3rd & 4th. The seven-team, single-elimination tournament began on Wednesday, February 29th with three quarterfinal games at second, third and fourth seeds.

Top seed Medaille (N.Y.) College had a bye on Wednesday night while second seeded Moravian was victorious over seventh seed Centenary College, 77-57. Sixth seeded Penn State-Behrend earned a 63-59 win over third seeded and defending ECAC South champion Waynesburg College while fifth seeded Bethany (W.Va.) College earned a 61-60 victory over fourth seed Marywood University in Wednesday's other quarterfinals.

The Greyhounds will play Penn State-Behrend at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday while Medaille and Bethany will battle in the first semifinal contest at 2:00 p.m. The semifinal winners will play for the 2012 ECAC Division III Women's South Championship at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Medaille enters the weekend with an overall record of 22-5, and the Mavericks posted a 16-2 mark in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference action. Medaille is making its second trip to the ECAC South Championships and first since 2005.

Sophomore guard Joelle Pollak leads the Mavericks at 16.1 points per game, and she is averaging 5.3 rebounds per contest to go with a team high 65 three-pointers, 82 assists and 44 steals. Senior forward/center Tanisha Travis is averaging a double-double at 12.7 points and 10.3 rebounds per outing, and she leads the Mavericks with 39 blocked shots and 51 steals to go along with 38 assists. Senior guard Meghan Dougherty is contributing 8.1 points and 3.5 rebounds per game with a team high 94 assists, 47 three-pointers, 21 steals and ten blocked shots while junior guard Brittney Rowland is netting 5.8 points per contest with 79 rebounds, 59 assists, 32 steals and 23 three-pointers.

Freshman forward Morgan Howe has averaged of 5.7 points and 4.2 rebounds per game for Medaille to go with 15 assists and 15 blocked shots while freshman guard Alicia Montalvo is adding 5.2 points and 3.7 rebounds per outing to go with 34 assists, 19 steals, 14 three-pointers and seven blocked shots. Senior forward Taneda Travis has contributed 104 points, 87 rebounds, 24 assists, 11 steals and seven blocked shots this winter for the Mavericks while freshman guard Emily Brophy has 72 points, 44 rebounds and 25 assists.

Sophomore guard Mary Bongiovanni has 67 points, 34 rebounds, 24 assists, eight three-pointers and seven steals for Medaille while sophomore forward Tara Caples has added 54 rebounds, 44 points, 16 assists and 15 steals for the Mavericks.

Moravian is 16-11 overall this season and is making its 13th appearance in the ECAC Tournament. The Greyhounds have won two ECAC South Championships, one in 2007 and one in 1987. Moravian, which also hosted the tournament in 2005, was 8-6 in Landmark Conference action.

Senior forward Alexandra Blair leads the Greyhounds with team highs of 13.3 points and 9.0 rebounds per game, and she also has 92 blocked shots, 52 assists and 23 steals. Freshman forward Alexis Wright is contributing averages of 11.4 points and 8.0 rebounds per contest in her debut campaign to go with 49 blocked shots, 42 steals and 22 assists. Junior guard Amanda Kreuder is contributing 8.9 points per outing, and she has added 77 rebounds, 60 assists and 33 steals while sophomore guard Katie O'Rourke is tossing in 7.9 points and grabbing 6.1 rebounds per game to go with 68 assists and a team high 48 steals.

Sophomore guard Danielle Brogan leads Moravian with 45 three-pointers this winter to go with a scoring average of 7.1 points per game, and she has added 72 rebounds, 24 steals, 13 assists and six blocked shots. Senior guard Hilary Murray leads the Greyhounds with 87 assists in her final campaign, and she is adding 5.7 points per game with 66 rebounds, 43 steals, 13 three-pointers and eight blocked shots. Sophomore forward/center Laura Jordan is contributing 4.9 points and 3.6 rebounds per outing for Moravian with 20 blocked shots, nine assists and ten steals. Sophomore guard Alyssa Hann has 85 points, 45 rebounds, 43 assists, 35 steals and five three-pointers for the Greyhounds while sophomore guard Laura Casey has added 63 points, 34 rebounds, 26 assists, 12 steals and five blocked shots.

Sophomore forward Ericka Blair has 41 points, 17 rebounds, nine steals and six blocked shots. Senior guard Cassandra Phillips has added 17 points, 12rebounds and nine assists in her final season while junior guard Katie Marakos has 18 points, five rebounds and three steals. Sophomore guard Sarah LaFerrara has ten rebounds, eight points and five steals for the Greyhounds while freshman guard Casey Bill has six assists, three points, four steals and three boards. Junior guard Alyssa Baranovich has contributed four rebounds, two assists and two points.

Bethany is playing in the ECAC Tournament for the fourth time, and the first time since 1999. The Bison enter the weekend with an overall record of 17-11 overall record and were 11-7 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference.

Junior guard Kayla Taormina leads the Bison at 11.3 points and 5.4 rebounds per game to go with 67 assists, 29 steals, 11 three-pointers and six blocked shots. Senior guard Anne Wilson is tossing in 11.0 points per game, and she has team highs of 77 assists and 52 steals to go with 31 three-pointers. Senior guard/forward Renee Shepherd is contributing 9.6 points and 5.9 rebounds per contest with a team highs of 34 three-pointers and 23 blocked shots to go with 48 assists and 34 steals while senior forward Katelynn Hackathorn leads Bethany on the boards at 6.4 rebounds per outing to go with a scoring average of 8.6 points per game, 22 assists, 13 steals, 12 three-pointers and nine blocked shots.

Senior guard Audra Droginske is contributing 7.7 points per game for the Bison to go with 62 rebounds, 31 three-pointers, 73 assists and 29 steals while sophomore guard/forward Taylor Verrico is adding 4.7 points per contest with 52 rebounds, 21 three-pointers, 16 assists and 16 steals. Sophomore guard Skylar Williams has 113 points, 76 rebounds, 54 assists, 28 steals and 18 three-pointers on the season for Bethany while senior guard Kelly Zogran has added 96 points, 49 rebounds, 18 three-pointers, 13 steals and seven assists.

Junior guard/forward Carly Garneau has 56 points, 36 rebounds on the year for Bethany while sophomore forward Emilee Madison has added 67 rebounds, 35 points and 13 blocked shots. Sophomore guard Ty Harris has contributed 33 points, 33 rebounds, 23 assists and 21 steals.

Penn State-Behrend enters the weekend with an overall record of 22-5. The Lions were 15-3 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference. Penn State-Behrend is making its seventh ECAC Tournament appearance, and the Lions won the title in 1996 and 1992.

Senior guard Brittany Wilhohl leads Penn State-Behrend at 16.0 points per game, and she has added team highs of 68 assists and 27 three-pointers to go with 75 rebounds and 59 steals. Junior forward Holly Bourguin is tossing in 13.5 points and grabbing 6.1 rebounds per contest to go with a team high 18 blocked shots, 50 steals and ten assists. Junior forward Julia Myers leads the Lions on the boards with an average of 7.4 rebounds per outing to go with an average of 9.2 points per game. She also has 22 steals, 13 assists and seven blocked shots.

Junior guard Aly Eagle is contributing 5.8 points per game with 49 rebounds, 30 assists, 20 steals and 26 three-pointers while sophomore guard Emily Detsch is adding 5.4 points and 5.3 rebounds per contest with 42 steals, 30 assists, 12 three-pointers and seven blocked shots. Senior guard Kim Pol is netting 4.9 points and grabbing 4.0 rebounds per outing with a team high 68 steals to go with 64 assists and 13 three-pointers.

Sophomore guard Brianna Bayly has 128 points, 84 rebounds, 33 steals, 26 assists and 18 three-pointers on the season for Penn State-Behrend while senior guard Abby Henderson has 77 points, 39 rebounds, 31 assists, 15 steals and 12 three-pointers. Sophomore forward Sarah Schweitzer has added 64 points, 56 rebounds, 14 assists and 11 steals for the Lions.
