#13 Juniata Too Much To Handle For Greyhounds

The Moravian College women's basketball team fell to Landmark Conference foe nationally-ranked #13 Juniata College, 77-55, Friday evening.

Junior guard Amanda Kreuder got Moravian on the board first with a layup. A three-pointer from senior guard Ashton Bankos and a layup sophomore forward Kate McDonald would put the Eagles up 9-4 three minutes into the contest. Freshman guard Alix Sellers put Juniata up 13-6 with 13:49 remaining in the half.

The Greyhounds would go on a 9-2 run with points scored by freshman forward Alexis Wright, sophomore guard Alyssa Hann, senior forward Alexandra Blair and Kreuder to tie the game at 15 with 9:20 left in the first half.

The Eagles would answer back with a 9-2 run of their own capped by two free throws from Alyssia Gordan to put Juniata up 24-17 with 6:37 remaining in the half. A layup from Wright and a free throw from her on the next possession would cut the Eagles lead to four points at 24-20 with 6:27 left in the first half.

Juniata would then go on a 6-0 run with points from senior guard Meagan Raville and Gordon to go up 30-20 with just under four minutes remaining in the half. Two free throws from sophomore guard Laura Casey and a three-pointer from sophomore guard Danielle Brogan would make the score 30-25, Juniata with 2:34 to go in the half. The Eagles would then go on an 11-1 run and head into the locker room with a 41-26 lead.

Moravian shot 32-percent from the field while Juniata shot 40-percent from the field in the first half. The Eagles held the rebounding edge at 22 to 17 and committed five less turnovers. Wright led the Greyhounds with five points and four rebounds while Gordon led Juniata with eight points and three boards in the first half.

McDonald would get Juniata on the board first in the second half with two quick layups to extend the Eagles lead to 19 points at 45-26 a minute and a half in. Wright would get the Hounds on the board in the second half with a layup to make the score 45-28 two minutes in.

Juniata would keep the pressure on as they kept building its lead. A jumper from Kreuder would make the score 54-30 with 14:45 left in the contest. A jumper from Wright and a layup from Brogan on the next possession would make the score 67-44, Juniata with nine minutes left in the contest. The Greyhounds would battle the rest of the way, but the Eagles kept the pressure on and went onto win 77-55.

Brogan led the way for Moravian with 11 points and three steals while Kreuder had seven points and two assists. Wright finished with nine points and four rebounds while Casey had seven points and three assists.

McDonald and Gordon led the Eagles with 15 points each and 12 combined rebounds. Sophomore guard Jordan Hileman had 11 points and six boards while Raville had 11 points and four rebounds.

Moravian shot 37-percent from the field while Juniata shot 48-percent from the field for the game. The Eagles committed two less turnovers and held the rebounding edge at 45 to 27.

Moravian returns to action tomorrow, January 21st when they travel to conference rival Susquehanna University. The contest is scheduled for 4 p.m.
