MADISON, N.J. --- The 2011-12 Moravian College women's basketball team has been selected to finish fourth in the Landmark Conference season in a preseason poll selected by the conference's head coaches and sports information directors.
Defending champion Juniata College was selected to repeat with 92 points while The Catholic University of America is second with 75 points. The University of Scranton and the Greyhounds are third and fourth with 72 and 62 points respectively while Susquehanna University holds down the fifth spot with 45 points. Drew University is sixth with 36 points while Goucher College is seventh with 24 points. The United States Merchant Marine Academy rounds out the poll with 15 points.
Head coach Mary Beth Spirk, entering her 25th season on the bench, will lead a team mixed with several veterans including 11 letterwinners and three starters. Under Spirk's direction, the 2010-11 Greyhounds posted a 14-13 record and reached both the Landmark Conference and ECAC Division III South Tournaments.
The Greyhounds will begin the regular season versus long time rival Muhlenberg College on Tuesday, November 15th with a 6:00 p.m. tip-off in Johnston Hall. Moravian will then travel to Boston to compete in the Emmanuel College Tournament. The Greyhounds open the 2011-12 Landmark Conference season at Scranton on Saturday, December 3rd at 4:00 p.m.
