Women's Basketball Can Clinch Postseason Berth With a Win This Weekend

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Moravian College women's basketball team (13-9, 6-5 Landmark) travels to Landmark Conference opponents Drew University tonight, February 10th and the United States Merchant Marine Academy tomorrow, February 11th.

The Lady Greyhounds went 1-1 last weekend, defeating Susquehanna University, 62-46 while falling just short to nationally-ranked #13 Juniata college, 63-60 in the Play 4Kay Breast Cancer Awareness Game.

Rejected: Moravian is averaging 7.36 blocked shots per game this season, which ranks them second in NCAA Division III.

Controlling the Rock: The Greyhounds are second in the conference with a 3.05 turnover margin, causing 22.7 turnovers while turning the ball over only 19.6 times per game.

One-Two Punch: Senior forward Alexandra Blair and freshman forward Alexis Wright have been a dominant duo this season. Blair ranks third in the conference with 13.8 points per game, second in rebounds per contest (9.0) and first in blocked shots per game at 3.50. Meanwhile, Wright is tenth in the conference in points per game (11.2), fourth in rebounds a game (8.0) and blocks per game (1.64).

Floor General: Senior guard Hilary Murray is second in the Landmark Conference with 3.60 assists per contest and first with a 1.60 assists turnover ratio.

Drew: Drew (8-14, 4-7 Landmark) is led by Danielle Barber, who ranks first in the conference with 16.1 points per game. She also ranks first with 4.23 assists per game. Senior forward Victoria Ault is seventh in the conference with 7.6 boards per contest. The Greyhounds defeated the Rangers earlier this year, 60-52. Sophomore guard Katie O'Rourke recorded her first career double-double off of 12 points and ten rebounds.

USMMA: USMMA (9-12, 4-7 Landmark) has one of the top defenses in the Landmark Conference. The Mariners rank third in scoring defense (55.7), second in field goal percentage defense (.337) and first in three-point field goal percentage defense (.213). Freshman Demi Van Der Wal is first in the conference with 3.43 steals per game to go with her 12.2 points per contest. The Greyhounds won their first meeting against USMMA, 64-49. Blair put up a double-double off of 17 rebounds and 12 points.

Landmark Conference: #13/#11 Juniata College (21-1, 11-0) sits in first place and has clinched a postseason berth. The Catholic University of America (18-4, 9-2) is in second place while The University of Scranton (13-9, 8-3) is in third, and both teams have clinched postseason berths. Moravian College (13-9, 6-5) is in fourth place and can clinch a playoff berth with a victory. USMMA (9-12, 4-7) and Drew University (8-14, 4-7) are tied for fifth place. Goucher College (5-17, 1-10) and Susquehanna University (4-18, 1-10) sit in last place, and both have been eliminated from postseason play.

Next Weekend: Moravian hosts The University of Scranton in the final home contest and final game of the season. The contest is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 18th. It's also the first Teddy Bear Toss and senior day for the Greyhounds.
