Cunningham Nets 14 as Hounds Fall to No. 10 Montclair State

Bethlehem, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's basketball hosted a Toy's for Tots drive as the team faced off against No. 10/11 ranked Montclair State University in a non-conference match in Johnston Hall on Monday night, falling to the Red Hawks, 86-58.

In the first half, freshman forward Trista Cunningham led the Greyhounds with eight points and three total rebounds. Senior forward Alexis Wright contributed seven points, two rebounds, one steal and one assist while junior Alesha Marcks and sophomore Morgan Calabrese both tossed in five points each to get the Hounds within eleven before halftime trailing the Red Hawks 42-31.

"Trista gave us a huge spark early," commented Head Coach Mary Beth Spirk. "She went out there and just played hard. We like the way she plays, and she is just going to get better and better as she gains confidence and the same with Taylor. Taylor can score, she can shoot the outside and go to the basket but we just need her to stay out of foul trouble like she has been."

The Hounds would put up 27 more points in the second half but they wouldn't be able to catch the Red Hawks who extended their lead. Cunningham would end the night with a career- high of 14 points and five rebounds. Wright capped the night at 13 points and after six rebounds moved into eighth in the Moravian record book for a career total of 698 boards. Freshman guard Taylor Freeman also had a career-high of 11 points while collecting two steals, one block and one assist.

"I told the team, it's just one game and we've got to throw that out," stated Spirk" The nice thing about playing a couple games in a row is that you have no time to think about what just happened. We have our first conference game and we are looking to get that win."

The Blue and Grey return to Johnston Hall on Wednesday, December 3 as they open their 2014-15 Landmark Conference season at 7:00 p.m. against Goucher College.
