Wright Named Landmark Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week

TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College senior forward Alexis Wright has been selected as the Landmark Conference Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week for her performance last week.

Wright scored 17 points in the Hounds' 70-66 come-from-behind win over DeSales University in the squad's only action of the week as she became the 24th player in school history to reach 1,000 career points. Wright hit the milestone when she banked in a jumper with 5:45 remaining to tie the game at 56-56. She also had eight rebounds, six assists, four blocked shots and a pair of steals in the victory.

"Alexis had a solid all-around game against DeSales," commented 28th–year Head Coach Mary Beth Spirk, who has coached at least part of the careers for 21 of Moravian 24 1,000-point scorers. "Despite pressing a bit knowing she needed 16 points to score 1,000 in her career, Alexis continued to make her presence felt on both ends of the court. Alexis has played solid since her return and leads the team with her ability to change the game with points, blocked shots, assists or steals. As her confidence gets stronger each game, Alexis will get better and better on the court."

Wright sits at 1,001 points for her career, and she is ninth in the Greyhounds' record book with 692 career rebounds and third at 152 blocked shots. She has returned to the line-up after missing the final 20 games of 2013-14 with an injury.

The Greyhounds will get back to action on Monday, December 1 when the squad hosts nationally-ranked Montclair State University in a non-conference contest tipping off at 7:00 p.m. in Johnston Hall. The Hounds are hosting a Toys for Tots donation drive from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Monday as well.
