Wright & Marcks Named to Landmark All-Conference 1st Team; Wright Tabbed as Defensive Player of the Year

TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College forwards senior Alexis Wright and junior Alesha Marcks have been named to the 2015 Landmark All-Conference First Team and Wright has also been selected as the Landmark Defensive Player of the Year.

The duo give the Greyhounds a total of 14 Landmark All-Conference honorees in the eight-year history of the conference with 12 First Team selections, and Wright is the second Hound to be named the Landmark Defensive Player of the Year. Wright was on the Landmark All-Conference First Team as a sophomore in 2013, and she was the Landmark Rookie of the Year in 2012.

Wright is averaging a double-double at 15.4 points and 12.0 rebounds per outing, and she has 16 double-doubles this season and 39 in her career. Wright also leads the Greyhounds with 61 blocked shots and 54 steals to go with 39 assists this winter. Wright, who was an Honorable Mention All-American in 2013 before missing 20 games last year due to an injury, is second in school history with 922 career rebounds and 200 career blocked shots, and she ranks eighth all-time in scoring with 1,307 points in 91 career games.

"Alexis worked extremely hard to come back to be a leader on this team on and off the court," commented Head Coach Mary Beth Spirk. "To achieve First Team status in the conference is a tremendous accomplishment, and to top it off with the Defensive Player of the Year is a tribute to all that hard work she put in the off season. Alexis has grown as a player over the past three years. She is one of the most unselfish players I have coached and one of the most talented. We are proud of all her accomplishments."

Marcks leads Moravian in scoring this winter at 16.2 points per game, and she is second on the squad in rebounding with 7.9 boards per contest. Marcks is also on 86.7 percent of her free throw attempts this winter, going 150-of-173 at the charity stripe, and she has added 57 assists, 39 steals and 36 blocked shots. Marcks has netted 803 points and added 410 rebounds, 133 assists, 77 steals and 76 blocked shots (10th in Moravian's record book) in 82 career contests. She has connected on 219-of-258 free throws in her career, currently second in school history.

"Alesha has matured into a starter and rock on this team this year," stated Spirk. "Her First Team selection serves as a example of what you can accomplish if you put in the work in the off season and continue to have a high work ethic throughout the season. Alesha has been a key for us this year, as she is our emotional leader on and off the court, and she is often our "go to" player when we need a score or a stop. The future is bright with Alesha returning for her senior year."

The duo has helped Moravian to a 14-11 overall record this season and the program's 14th straight postseason appearance with the Greyhounds receiving a berth to the 2015 ECAC Division III South Tournament. The fourth seeded Hounds will host sixth seed Marywood University on Wednesday, March 4 at 6:00 p.m. in Johnston Hall.
