Rossignoli Posts Double-Double as Hounds Win at Goucher

TOWSON, Md. --- Junior guard Marie Rossignoli picked up her first career double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, and she was one of three Moravian College women's basketball players to score in double figures as the Greyhounds won their fourth straight game with a 62-44 victory at Goucher College Wednesday evening.

Rossignoli, who became the fourth Hound to record a double-double this season as she hit double digits in both categories for the first time in her career, was joined in double figures for points by senior forward Alexis Wright and junior forward Alesha Marcks.

Wright tossed in 18 points to move up two spots to 13th on Moravian's all-time list with 1,149 points, and she also grabbed nine boards to raise her career total to 792 and move her into a tie for fourth with Stephanie Seaman '06. Marcks added 10 points, all in the first half as the Hounds headed to the locker room with a 24-17 lead, and she also contributed nine rebounds.

Freshman guard Taylor Freeman added seven points and four boards for the Greyhounds while junior forward Karlee Corvasce  had five rebounds, four points and three assists off of the bench. Sophomore guard Morgan Calabrese also scored four points and dished out three assists while junior guard Emily MacDonnell added three points and a pair of assists in the victory as Moravian improves to 9-6 overall and 5-2 in Landmark action.

Marcks opened the scoring in the first minute and for the first time this season, the Greyhounds held the lead for the entire game. The Gophers cut the lead to one twice at 3-2 and 5-4, but a 7-0 run from the Hounds turned a 12-10 lead into a 19-10 advantage with 4:18 left before the intermission.

Holding just a seven-point lead to open the second half, Moravian used an 11-4 run over the first 5:07 of the half to push its lead to 35-21. Rossignoli hit a pair of free throws with 9:46 on the clock to make the advantage 50-25. The Hounds controlled the game for the rest of the half.

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Sunday, January 18 in a non-conference game at Wilkes University tipping off at 1:00 p.m.
