Hounds Fall to Swarthmore Under Lights on John Makuvek Field

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's lacrosse team fell to Swarthmore College, 20-10, in non-conference action under the lights of John Makuvek Field Wednesday evening.

The Greyhounds, now 4-2 this season, had four goal scorers led by junior attack Liz Bill, who netted four goals. Sophomore midfielder Meaghan McMullan added two goals, two assists and five draw controls while freshman midfielder Lindsey Strohl contributed two goals, an assist and four draw controls. Sophomore attack Danielle Sullivan had a pair of goals while senior attack Jillian Picciuto added two assists.

Senior goalie Kelley Gavin made six saves in 43 minutes of action while sophomore goalie Courtney Heist added two saves. Sophomore defender Olivia Clearie led Moravian with five ground balls to go with three draw controls while freshman defender Samantha Cherenson scooped up three ground balls.

The Blue and Grey had a 16-12 edge in ground balls in the contest and were 14-for-17 on clears out of the defensive end.

Bill opened the scoring three and a half minutes into action off of a pass from Strohl for her 22nd goal of the season. The Garnet answered with five straight goals before back-to-back tallies from McMullan in a span of 33 seconds. Swarthmore then scored three of the last four goals of the half to head to the intermission with an 8-4 advantage.

The Garnet needed just 42 seconds to score in the second half before three straight goals by the Greyhounds including Sullivan's second goal of the night cut the deficit to 9-7 with 26:41 to go. Swarthmore netted three consecutive goals before Bill scored again, and the Garnet netted eight more goals in the final 21 minutes with Bill netting two more tallies for the Hounds.

Moravian is slated to return to action on Saturday, March 23 when the squad travels Goucher College to begin the 2019 Landmark Conference season at 1:00 p.m. in Towson, Maryland.
