McMullan Nets School Record 11 Goals Including 100th of Career in Landmark Conference WIn Over Drew

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian College sophomore midfielder Meaghan McMullan scored a school record 11 goals with seven in the second half, and she became the seventh women's lacrosse player in school history to reach 100 career goals to help the Greyhounds to a 23-15 win versus Drew University in Landmark Conference action on John Makuvek Field Friday afternoon.

The Hounds are now 11-4 overall and 5-1 in Landmark Conference play to set up a winner hosts a Landmark Semifinal match next Saturday, April 27 in the final regular season match at The University of Scranton with both the Blue and Grey and the Royals sitting at 5-1 in conference action.

McMullan was one of five goal scorers for Moravian against Drew, and she added an assist and two ground balls. Senior attack Jillian Picciuto also had 12 points on three goals and a school record nine assists to go along with five draw controls and three ground balls, and Picciuto tied her own single season record of 38 assists set in 2016. Junior attack Liz Bill netted five goals to break her own school record with 74 goals this season passing her mark of 73 from last spring, and Bill added two assists and 11 draw controls. Freshman midfielder Lindsey Strohl contributed three goals, seven draw controls and a pair of caused turnovers while sophomore attack Danielle Sullivan had one goal and one assist.

Senior Kelley Gavin made the start in goal and had five saves in 23 minutes of action while sophomore goalie Courtney Heist came in and registered 10 saves over the final 37 minutes of play. Sophomore defender Olivia Clearie recorded a pair of draw controls for the Hounds.

For the fourth time this season, the Greyhounds won 25 draw controls, tying the school record, and the squad also tied the mark with 13 assists in the victory.

The Rangers scored first before Bill and Sullivan scored to make it a 2-1 Moravian lead. Drew scored two of the next three goals sandwiched around McMullan's 100th career tally for a 3-3 match with 18:11 on the clock. Picciuto needed 12 seconds to put Moravian back ahead and two goals by McMullan made it a 6-3 Greyhounds' lead. However, the Rangers answered with three straight goals to knot the score at 7-7 when Heist entered the match. McMullan scored at the 6:32 mark to give Moravian the lead for good, and when Strohl netted her second goal of the match in the final 21 seconds of the half, the Hounds headed to the intermission with an 11-9 edge.

Drew would score two of the first three goals of the second half in the first 3:54 of action to cut the Moravian advantage to a goal at 12-11. From that point, Heist stopped eight of the last 12 Rangers' shots on goal while Moravian scored 11 more goals over the final 26 minutes of the match. McMullan would score her record 11th of the contest with 2:16 left on the clock.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action with their final non-conference match of the season when the squad heads to St. Joseph's (L.I.) College for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
