Hounds Fall to No. 10 Catholic in Landmark Conference Action on John Makuvek Field

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's lacrosse team dropped a 23-15 decision to No. 10 The Catholic University of America in Landmark Conference action on John Makuvek Field Saturday afternoon.

The Greyhounds, now 6-3 overall and 1-1 in Landmark Conference play, had four different players score goals in the contest led by junior attack Liz Bill, who scored six goals to go with a career-best 12 draw controls. Senior attack Jillian Picciuto contributed five goals, an assist and eight draw controls while sophomore midfielder Meaghan McMullan had two goals, one assist and two draw controls. Sophomore attack Danielle Sullivan added two goals for the Hounds.

Senior Kelley Gavin registered 15 saves while senior defender Melissa Webber had a pair of ground balls. Sophomore defender Olivia Clearie added two caused turnovers while freshman midfielder Lindsey Strohl had three draw controls.

The Blue and Grey jumped out to a 2-0 lead on a pair of goals by Picciuto just 1:09 into action. The Cardinals answered with four straight tallies to take a 4-2 lead. Moravian the scored four in a row with Bill's second goal of the match giving the Hounds' a 6-4 lead with 15:58 to play in the first half. The Greyhounds led 7-6 on a goal by Bill with 12:59 on the clock, and Bill would also knot the score at 9-9 with 6:22 to go in the first half with back-to-back goals. Sullivan made it an 11-11 contest with two straight goals, the second with 2:06 before the intermission but Catholic would score once more to head to halftime with a 12-11 lead.

The Cardinals scored to open the second half, and with Moravian trailing by three, Picciuto scored twice to pull the Hounds within a goal at 15-14 with 24:06 to play. However, Catholic scored the next six goals to pull away before Bill finished off the scoring for Moravian with 11:53 left in the contest.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, April 3 in a non-conference match at Stockton (N.J.) University beginning at 4:00 p.m.
