Picciuto Scores 200th Career Goal as Hounds Top Goucher to Begin Landmark Conference Slate

TOWSON, Md. --- The Moravian College women's lacrosse team opened the 2019 Landmark Conference season with a 23-10 victory at Goucher College on Saturday.

The Greyhounds, who are now 5-2 overall and 1-0 in conference action, had five different goal scorers led by senior attack Jillian Picciuto, who had seven goals to become the first player in school history to score 200 goals, and she has 314 career points with 114 assists. Junior attack Liz Bill netted six goals to go with a pair of ground balls while sophomore midfielder Meaghan McMullan had four goals, two assists, four draw controls and two ground balls. Freshman attack Lindsey Strohl contributed four goals, an assist, 11 draw controls and a pair of caused turnovers while senior attack Dalia Aguilar had one goal and one assist and sophomore attack Danielle Sullivan added an assist.

Senior goalie Kelley Gavin made 12 saves in 51 minutes of action while sophomore goalie Courtney Heist played the other nine minutes. Senior defender Melissa Webber contributed three ground balls and three caused turnovers while sophomore defender Olivia Clearie had four draw controls, two ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers and freshman attack Eliza Fantazzi scooped up two ground balls.

The Blue and Grey had a 37-28 advantage in shots, an 18-13 edge in ground balls, a 22-12 advantage in draw controls and were 14-for-17 on clears out of the defensive end.

Picciuto scored the opening goal 1:40 into action, starting a 5-0 run by Moravian to begin the contest with Strohl making it 5-0 with 22:32 on the clock. The two squads would almost trade goals for the rest of the half with the Greyhounds heading to the intermission with a 15-8 lead.

McMullan and Picciuto scored in the first minute of the second half for a 17-8 edge before the Gophers scored. The Hounds then tallied six straight goals before Goucher hit the final shot of the match in the last minute of action.

Moravian is slated to return to action on Wednesday, March 27 when the squad hosts DeSales University in a non-conference match beginning at 7:00 p.m. on John Makuvek Field in Bethlehem.
