Zalis Helps Hounds Battle to Scoreless Draw at Eastern Nazarene

QUINCY, Mass. --- Senior goalie Jacqueline Zalis made five saves to help the Moravian College women's soccer team posted a 0-0, double-overtime draw in non-conference action at Eastern Nazarene College.

Zalis earned her fifth career shutout and first of the season in the match. The Hounds had a 28-9 advantage in shots including 9-5 on goal during the contest.

Freshman Gabby Stelzmiller nearly gave Moravian a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute with a shot on goal, and senior midfielder Taylor Blake followed with a shot on goal in the 11th minute. After three saves by Zalis midway through the opening 45 minutes, freshman forward Alyssa Morgan put a shot on the keeper with 1:14 to play before the intermission.

Stelzmiller opened the second half with a shot for the Hounds while Zalis kept Eastern Nazarene off the scoreboard in the 60th minute. Junior defender Christine Miklas nearly scored in the 71st minute before Zalis kept the match scoreless three minutes later. Stelzmiller had a shot in the 82nd minute before sophomore defender Lauren Bertucci hit the crossbar with a header in the 88th minute.

In the first extra session, Miklas was just wide with a header, and he had a shot in the 97th minute along with senior midfielder Melissa Pavia that were both saves. Neither squad had a good scoring attempt in the second overtime session.

Moravian will return to action on Wednesday, September 9 in a non-conference match at Penn State-Harrisburg starting at 4:00 p.m.
