Hounds Fall to Rival Muhlenberg

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's soccer team dropped a tough battle with rival Muhlenberg College in the Matte Award match Tuesday afternoon by a final score of 2-0 on the HUB Quad.

The Greyhounds started off very strong finding their way to a shot in less than 90 seconds of play. The shot came off the foot of freshman forward Gabby Stelzmiller; however the Mules keeper made the save on the ball. The Hounds grabbed another good chance off of a corner kick by senior forward Brittany Nicoline. The ball found the head of sophomore forward Emily Crowley, who directed the ball on net but the Mules were able to clear the ball out from the mouth of the goal. At the end of the first 45 minutes of play the Blue and Grey would find themselves trailing by two goals.

In the second half, the Greyhounds worked hard to get back into the game with great chances coming from senior midfielder Taylor Blake, who had chance coming in the 52nd minute and in the 87th minute however neither shot was able to find the back of the net. Also with a quality try for the Hounds was senior midfielder Catherine Lamplugh but she was also stymied by the goalkeeper.

"I thought the second half was great," commented Head Coach Jeff Ykoruk. "I thought we created some really good chances but we just weren't able to cash in. However, it does give us a lot of confidence going into this weekend that we can win."

The starter in net for Moravian was Jacqueline Zalis, who made three saves in the game. With those saves Zalis moved into sixth in school history for career saves with 170, and she also moved into fourth in the record books for career minutes played. Seeing her first action of her career was freshman goalie Madison Mennell, making two saves in her debut in the final 45 minutes of action.

Up next for the Greyhounds is there last match of the 2015 regular season, as well as Senior Day. It will be a Landmark Conference match versus Drew University at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 31. If the Greyhounds beat the Rangers, they will be the fourth seed in the Landmark Conference Tournament.
