Zalis Honored as Landmark Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week

TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College senior goalie Jacqueline Zalis has been honored as the Landmark Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week for her performance last week.

Zalis made six saves as she posted her fifth shutout of the season in Moravian's 0-0, double-overtime tie at The University of Scranton on Saturday. The tie means that the Hounds can clinch a berth in the 2015 Landmark Conference Tournament with a win versus Drew University on Saturday, October 31.

"Jackie was really on her game against Scranton," noted Head Coach Jeffrey Ykoruk. "She commanded the goalkeeper box well and did a great job of coming off her line. She came up with a few really important saves and gave the entire team a sense of calmness during a really intense game."

Zalis has made 59 saves this season and three of her four victories this fall as well as both ties have been shutouts. In fact, Zalis has allowed one or fewer goals in eight of 14 matches this season. Zalis has made 167 saves in her career to go with nine shutouts, 12 victories and a 1.16 career goals-against average.

Moravian is scheduled to return to action in its final non-conference match of the season when the Hounds host rival Muhlenberg College on Tuesday, October 27 at 3:30 p.m. on the HUB Quad in a Matte Award contest.
